Donald and Timmy jealous?
I ran into a Dave Brandstetter fan Saturday while conducting a Donald Strachey Mysteries panel at MediaWest con. I asked her when she started reading the novels, and she said, "Oh, I bought them as they came out."

That means she has a shelf full of first editions. How cool would that be?

It was a lot fun meeting another fan. I hope I run into her again so we can have a longer chat.

Donald and Timmy jealous?
Michael Nava had an extensive interview about his Henry Rios novels as well as his current works. In the interview, he credits Joseph Hansen's Dave Brandstetter as one of his greatest inspirations.

The Henry Rios novels are now in ebook format. We can only hope the same happens for the Brandstetter novels. Of course, I'd love them in audio format since I already have all the books!

A lovely Dave Brandstetter story for Rebecca has been posted for Yuletide 2012. You can read it here:

10th-Dec-2012 10:31 pm - Dave's mother
Donald and Timmy jealous?
I've been searching through the books I've already read, but I can't find anything that tells me what happened to Dave's mother. Did she divorce Carl or did she die? I haven't read all the books yet, so I don't know if Dave had much contact with her when he was young. He seems to have lived with Carl for most of his young life.

I'm probably just overlooking something obvious, as usual.

There's a lovely review for "Fadeout", written by Sirius, at Reviews by JesseWave. You can read it here.

The site gets loads of hits, so hopefully Joseph Hansen will get some new readers.

My friend lil_1337 is writing a 100 ficlets, one each for 100 different fandoms. I'm so pleased she chose Dave Brandstetter Mysteries for one of her offerings. Please go to her journal and give it a read — don't forget to comment!

Donald and Timmy jealous?
We have until midnight Monday, May 21, to get in our prompts for the next smallfandomfest. Here's a link with all the particulars: http://smallfandomfest.livejournal.com/470381.html

There are 6 prompts for Brandstetter stories, but we could use more!
abby geek
Based on our discussion in this post, I'd suggest starting on June 2nd, wich is a Saturday.

(This should give me ample time to work my way though all the cardboard boxes and find my Brandstetter book. :D )
25th-Apr-2012 09:02 am - Brandstetter ebooks
lady on beach
I just discovered that two of the Brandstetter books are available in ebook form. They're not all that cheap, but I really wanted to have them on my eReader, so I decided to go for it.

From the Book Depository:

"Fadeout": http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/Fadeout-Joseph-Hansen/9780299205539

"Death Claims": http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/Death-Claims-Joseph-Hansen/9780299205638

I originally found them at the University of Wisconsin Press site, but after going through the ordering process, I was denied access. If you live in the US, you might have more luck.

UW Press:

"Fadeout": http://uwpress.wisc.edu/books/3790.htm

"Death Claims": http://uwpress.wisc.edu/books/3791.htm

ETA: These versions are PDF downloads, which don't format properly on my Sony eReader. They're also protected, so I couldn't change them to epub versions. Hopefully they'll work better for other people.
3rd-May-2012 09:01 pm - Reading Gravedigger?
abby geek
When would people like to read the next book, Gravedigger? For personal reasons and since I want to give everyone enough time in advance, I'd say no sooner than two weeks from now. Other than that, I'm open for anything. Do you have any preferences, opinions, other engagements?

Hello everyone, time to start reading Skinflick! I wanted to do another grahic, but I'm just in the process of switching computers, so I'm a little disorganised right now. Maybe I'll have it for the next post. :)

Anyhow, as always I'll make a comment for each chapter, so that we can post our discussions for each chapter as a reply to the according comment and no-one gets spoilered.

Have fun!

EDIT: We continue in a new post for part two, chapters 13-24
6th-Mar-2012 09:11 pm - Reading Skinflick
abby geek

I'm thinking about scheduling online reading Skinflick and wonder when people would have time? Personally, I could start around the 17th, and the weeks after that are pretty free too. Do people have any preferences? Sooner rather than later or do we want to give people some time before we start?

(In case there are new people here, I'm talking about something like this.)

Donald and Timmy jealous?
I was very happy to find an excellent first edition of "Gravediggers" for a very good price — and no shipping charges! Can't get better than that. The picture's a little blurry, but that seems to happen to me a lot.

Donald and Timmy jealous?
I wrote a Dave Brandstetter story as a Yuletide treat for rebecca2525, and you can find A Good Place to Start on AO3. The story carries an explicit rating and is about 2,200 words.

Summary: Dave is desperate for a new beginning. Will he find it with Doug Sawyer?
